Aurelia TV supports Jellyfin video libraries including Movies, TV Shows, Seasons, Episodes, Collections, Box Sets, Favorites, and Playlists.

Can I search my Jellyfin library?

Yes. Aurelia TV provides search across your available Jellyfin media libraries.

Does Aurelia TV support recommendations?

Yes. Aurelia TV can surface Jellyfin content such as Continue Watching, Next Up, Recently Added, Latest Media, similar content, and recommendations where the relevant information is provided by your server.

Does Aurelia TV show detailed media information?

Yes. Media pages can display artwork, descriptions, genres, studios, tags, cast, crew, and related content when that information is available from Jellyfin.

Playback

Which playback engines does Aurelia TV support?

Aurelia TV supports AndroidX Media3 ExoPlayer and provides additional playback engines where supported.

Media3 ExoPlayer is the recommended playback engine for older or more constrained Android TV hardware, as it generally provides the most reliable experience across a wider range of TV devices.

Newer and more capable TV hardware can use the available playback engines without significant issues, depending on the media being played and the device’s capabilities.

Why can playback engines behave differently on older TVs?

Android TV hardware varies considerably, particularly between older and newer television models.

Some older TVs have limited CPU, GPU, memory, or hardware-decoding capabilities. Playback engines with higher resource requirements may therefore experience reduced performance, dropped frames, or other playback issues on constrained hardware.

For these devices, Media3 ExoPlayer is generally the safest choice.

Newer TV devices with more capable hardware can typically use the available playback engines without noticeable problems.

Yes. Aurelia TV supports Direct Play, Direct Stream, and server-side transcoding, depending on the media, server configuration, device capabilities, and selected playback engine.

Does Aurelia TV support hardware-accelerated playback?

Yes. Hardware acceleration is supported where available through the selected playback engine and Android TV device.

Actual hardware-decoding support depends on the capabilities of the TV or Android TV device.

Does Aurelia TV support subtitles?

Yes. Aurelia TV supports embedded and external subtitles, including ASS/SSA subtitles commonly used with anime and other subtitle-heavy content.

Can I change subtitle appearance?

Yes. Aurelia TV provides subtitle customization options such as font size and styling, where supported by the selected playback engine.

Can I switch audio and subtitle tracks while watching?

Yes. You can select available audio and subtitle tracks during playback.

Does Aurelia TV remember my playback position?

Yes. Aurelia TV integrates with Jellyfin’s playback state so supported playback positions can be resumed through your server.

Does Aurelia TV support playback speed controls?

Yes. Playback speed can be adjusted during supported playback.

Trickplay & Playback Features

What are Trickplay thumbnails?

Trickplay provides thumbnail previews along the playback timeline, allowing you to quickly see what is happening at different points in a video when the required Trickplay data is available from your Jellyfin server.

Does Aurelia TV support Skip Intro and Skip Credits?

Yes. Aurelia TV supports Skip Intro and Skip Credits when the relevant markers are available from your Jellyfin server.

Live TV

Does Aurelia TV support Live TV?

Yes. Aurelia TV supports Jellyfin Live TV, including channel browsing, program information, live streams, recordings, and schedules.

For live playback, Aurelia TV uses its built-in Live TV playback path rather than relying on Jellyfin’s server-side transcoded Live TV stream.

Aurelia TV retrieves the available channel information and stream URLs from Jellyfin and plays the streams directly within the app.

This approach helps avoid some of the stability issues that can occur with Jellyfin’s Live TV transcoding pipeline and allows Aurelia TV to support a broad range of channels that can be played by compatible Android media players.

Does Aurelia TV support the TV guide?

Yes. Aurelia TV supports the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) when guide information is available through your Jellyfin server.

Can I watch recordings?

Yes. Supported Jellyfin recordings can be browsed and played through Aurelia TV.

Can I view recording schedules?

Yes. Aurelia TV can display recording schedules where the required information is provided by your Jellyfin server.

Downloads & Offline Viewing

Can I download media for offline viewing?

No. Downloads are not currently supported in Aurelia TV.

Aurelia TV is designed primarily around streaming content from your Jellyfin server on a television or large-screen device.

Can I play downloaded Aurelia media on my TV?

Aurelia TV does not currently provide the mobile client’s download functionality.

Offline downloads remain a feature of the mobile Aurelia client rather than Aurelia TV.

TV Experience & Navigation

Is Aurelia TV the same app as Aurelia?

Aurelia and Aurelia TV are separate clients with different interfaces and device experiences, but they share the same underlying application logic and core functionality.

Aurelia is designed for phones and tablets, while Aurelia TV is purpose-built for Android TV and other TV devices.

The shared foundation keeps Jellyfin integration, playback behavior, and core functionality consistent between the clients, while the presentation layer is tailored specifically to each device category.

Aurelia TV is not simply the mobile interface scaled up to a larger screen. It has its own TV-focused design and interaction patterns.

Is Aurelia TV designed for remote controls?

Yes. Aurelia TV is designed around remote-based navigation rather than touch interaction.

The interface uses large-screen layouts, visible focus states, and navigation patterns intended for use from a distance.

What is Aurelia TV built with?

Aurelia TV uses Jetpack Compose for TV for its TV interface.

Compose for TV provides useful building blocks for TV interfaces, but it is still a relatively young part of the Android UI ecosystem. As a result, some minor UI quirks can occur.

Are there any known UI limitations?

Aurelia TV may occasionally experience minor UI glitches related to scroll-position or focus-state retention, particularly when navigating between LazyRows and LazyColumns.

For example, returning to a previously visited section may not always restore the exact scroll position that was previously visible.

These issues are primarily related to the current maturity and behavior of the underlying Compose for TV components rather than the Jellyfin integration itself.

They generally do not affect playback or media data and are being improved as the TV UI continues to evolve.

Is Aurelia TV optimized for older TV hardware?

Yes. Aurelia TV is intentionally designed to remain relatively lightweight because Android TV hardware can vary significantly in capability.

The application aims to provide a visually polished experience without assuming that every television has the hardware capabilities of a modern flagship Android device.

Media3 ExoPlayer is generally the recommended playback engine for older or constrained devices.

Newer TV hardware can take advantage of the available playback engines with fewer hardware-related limitations.

Personalization & Settings

Can I customize Aurelia TV’s appearance?

Yes. Aurelia TV supports available appearance options including Light, Dark, and True Black (AMOLED) themes and other supported customization options.

Can I choose my preferred playback engine?

Yes. Where multiple playback engines are available on your device, you can select your preferred playback engine through Aurelia TV’s settings.

For older or less capable TV hardware, Media3 ExoPlayer is recommended for the most reliable playback experience.

Can I manage multiple servers from Settings?

Yes. Server configurations can be managed through Aurelia TV’s settings, including multiple server connections and profile switching.

Privacy

Does Aurelia TV contain advertisements?

No. Aurelia TV does not include advertisements.

Does Aurelia TV collect analytics or telemetry?

No. Aurelia TV does not use analytics or developer-operated telemetry.

Does Aurelia TV upload my media?

No. Your media remains on your Jellyfin server.

Aurelia TV communicates with your configured Jellyfin server to browse, stream, and manage supported playback information.

Does Aurelia TV require an account?

Aurelia TV does not require a CodeNest Duo account.

You use the authentication provided by your Jellyfin server when connecting to it.

Where can I read the Aurelia TV Privacy Policy?

You can read the full Aurelia TV Privacy Policy for information about permissions, server communication, data handling, and third-party services.

Current Limitations

Does Aurelia TV support Jellyfin music libraries?

Not currently. Aurelia TV currently focuses on the Jellyfin video experience.

Does Aurelia TV support Jellyfin book libraries?

Not currently. Book libraries are not currently supported.

Does Aurelia TV support Jellyfin photo libraries?

Not currently. Photo libraries are not currently supported.

Does Aurelia TV support downloads?

Are all playback engines equally suitable for every TV?

No.

Playback performance depends heavily on the hardware capabilities of the TV or Android TV device.

Media3 ExoPlayer is recommended for older or constrained hardware. Newer TV devices with more capable hardware can generally use the available playback engines without significant issues.

Aurelia TV is actively developed, and additional Jellyfin capabilities, compatibility improvements, and UI refinements may be introduced in future releases.

Troubleshooting

Why can’t Aurelia TV connect to my Jellyfin server?

Check that your Jellyfin server is running and reachable from your TV.

Verify the server address and authentication details, and make sure your network or VPN configuration allows the connection.

Why isn’t a movie or episode appearing?

Make sure the media is visible in the corresponding Jellyfin library and that your Jellyfin server has completed its library scan.

Refreshing Aurelia TV or reconnecting to the server may also help if the server’s library has recently changed.

Why isn’t Trickplay working?

Trickplay requires the appropriate Trickplay data to be generated and available on your Jellyfin server.

If that data is unavailable, Aurelia TV cannot display timeline thumbnails.

Why isn’t Skip Intro or Skip Credits available?

These controls depend on the relevant markers being available from your Jellyfin server.

If the server has not generated or provided those markers, Aurelia TV cannot display the corresponding controls.

Why isn’t a subtitle working correctly?

Subtitle compatibility can depend on the subtitle format, media file, selected playback engine, and Android TV device.

For advanced subtitles such as ASS/SSA, trying another available playback engine may provide better compatibility depending on your device.

Why is playback slow or unstable?

Playback performance can depend heavily on the capabilities of your TV hardware.

If you are using an older or more constrained TV device, try Media3 ExoPlayer as the playback engine.

Newer TV hardware generally provides more flexibility when using the available playback engines.

Why did my scroll position not return exactly where I left it?

Aurelia TV uses Jetpack Compose for TV and some minor scroll-position and focus-retention issues can occur when navigating between LazyRows and LazyColumns.

If a section does not return to exactly the same position after navigating away and back, this is a known UI limitation and does not indicate a problem with your Jellyfin server or media.

Where can I report a bug or request a feature?

If you encounter a problem or have a suggestion for Aurelia TV, contact CodeNest Duo through the available support and community channels.

When reporting a bug, include your Aurelia TV version, Android TV version, TV/device model, Jellyfin server version, and a short description of the issue.

Screenshots or diagnostic information can also help with troubleshooting.
